“Apple E-News” host Calvin Chen is his family’s eldest grandson, so his family doted on him since he was little. When he was in primary school, he was a model student. He passed the exam to enter the No. 1 high school for boys Taipei Municipal Jianguo High School (*JianZhong for short). His biggest setback was that because he cut class to chase girls, he failed in his university entrance exams and his dream to become a doctor was shattered. His angry mother sent him to Canada, where he persevered and finished his undergrad and master’s in four years. He lived in Vancouver for six and a half years, and spent approximately 7 million TWD.
Calvin Chen was the class monitor in primary school, a model student, he was good at academics, he was good at sports, and was a member of the school track and field team. In middle school, though he loved having fun, his academic records were still among the best, so he was able to smoothly pass the exams to attend JianZhong. After entering JianZhong, he didn’t change his fun-loving personality. Add to that the free style of teaching in JianZhong, he took his fun-loving personality to the next level and sat at the back rows in class so he can easily skip classes, and instead played basketball and sang karaoke with his middle school buddies. Of course he didn’t neglect dating, and he also dated smart girls. He dated three girls who each went to school in BeiYi (*aka Taipei First Girls’ High School = Selina’s school), ZhongShan (*aka Taipei Municipal Songshan Senior High School = his first gf’s school), and YangMing (*aka Taipei Municipal Yang Ming Senior High School).
While Calvin Chen had fun in JianZhong, his dream was to become a doctor. But when he failed in his university entrance exams, that dream was shattered. The exam results was released August 8, and by September 7 he was already sent abroad. He said, “After applying to schools for only a month, I already packed my bags to go abroad. Clearly, Mom was very angry.”
Finally in Vancouver he was able to reflect on his mistakes. He spent one year in language school, then three years to finish his economics degree in Simon Fraser University, then because of his straight A’s, he was admitted to the University of Victoria for grad program in economics, where he spent another year. “At the time, I was super motivated. After my classes are finished for the day, I would go buy bento and go straight to the library to study and leave at around 12 midnight. After that I’d go to the grad school offices to study some more and go home at about 2 in the morning. Even the security guard on campus thought I was some thief.”
Calvin Chen’s performance in Vancouver was outstanding, he also worked part-time, washing cars and waiting tables, and also worked as a teaching assistant. After graduation he was already recruited to work at the Central Bank of Canada, and he intended to settle in Vancouver. But he unexpectedly returned to Taiwan to enter show business. This decision caused a furor in his family. It was only when he joined Fahrenheit and they performed at the Red House did he finally get his father’s approval.

Sept.17.11 Wu Chun: I’ll get married tomorrow
Source:AsiaOne by Elrica Tanu (RazorTV)
“Why don’t I get married tomorrow?” joked Taiwan-based idol Wu Chun, in response to rumours that he is secretly married.
The former member of Taiwanese boy band Fahrenheit was reported to have married his high school sweetheart of 15 years in 2009, and that his daughter was born in February. A tabloid magazine in Taiwan even quoted sources they had spoken to in Wu’s hometown of Brunei.
The 32-year-old has since clarified through his manager that the woman and baby girl he was photographed with in the magazine are his sister-in-law and niece. But if any paparazzi dare go knocking on his family’s door again in Brunei, beware! “I’ve planted explosives outside my house,” he quipped.
Wu was in Singapore to promote his latest movie, My Kingdom (2011), where he spent the Mid-Autumn Festival with more than 200 fans at a special screening of the movie.

Wu Chun: Good boss, bad boss
Source:channelnewsasia
By Han Wei Chou | Posted: 15 September 2011

SINGAPORE: There are all sorts of bosses in this world.
There are those who tell you what to do and let you do all the dirty work.
Then there are those like Wu Chun.
The Brunei-born Taiwan actor runs his family’s chain of gyms in Brunei whenever he manages to peel himself away from his busy showbiz career, and he says he is the kind of boss who “leads by example”.
“I hope to be a good role model for my staff.
“I feel that if I am working for someone who isn’t interested in the business and does not work hard, I would not set high work standards for myself either,” said Wu.
The former Fahrenheit member was speaking at a promotional event in Singapore on Monday, for his new idol drama “Sunny Girl”, in which he plays the general manager of a cosmetics conglomerate.
“When I return to Brunei, I am very busy. I dump my actor persona and do everything.
“Even if there is rubbish on the floor, I am the first person who would go over and throw it away.”
“It’s an attitude. I keep trying to improve my knowledge of the business and share it with my staff, to show I am serious … so they will be too,” said Wu.
He pointed out that he is a very different kind of boss from his character Di Ya Xin in “Sunny Girl”.
Di is arrogant, self-centred and constantly makes life difficult for Yang Guang (played by Rainie Yang), a girl who became his maid to pay off her parents’ debts.
Of course, his character, in true idol drama style, slowly falls for the lovable lass Yang Guang and begins to change his ways after getting to know her.
Near-death experience
While the drama series is filled with romantic scenarios and breathtaking backdrops, the making of “Sunny Girl” was not exactly pleasant.
Wu revealed that he almost died while shooting a scene for the drama, which involved him paragliding off a cliff before crashing into a shack.
“When you paraglide, you need to listen to instructions … and open the fabric wing when there is wind.”
“But I didn’t hear the production staff say, ‘Don’t jump, don’t jump’ and I jumped off anyway.”
“I just slid down the cliff. The cliff was fifty, sixty storeys high!” said Wu.
“The director said I didn’t actually have to paraglide but I wanted to make it look good … so I said, let’s do it. That was the most thrilling scene I ever done in my acting career because I almost died.”
In spite of that nasty incident, Wu expressed that he thoroughly enjoyed himself on the set of “Sunny Girl” as Yang had been very warm towards him, even though it was only their first collaboration together.
He said he was also overjoyed that the director and producer of “Sunny Girl” were willing to incorporate his creative suggestions, from adding lines to the script to how certain scenes are shot, into the show.
“I’m really happy the director and the production staff were willing to let me participate. It really gives me a bigger sense of achievement [working on the show],” said Wu.
“Sunny Girl” airs every Saturday, 9.30pm on Channel U.

Sept.12.11 Wu Chun chooses movie over picture book

Wu Chun, Han Geng two nights ago appeared in Kowloon Bay to attend the film MY KINGDOM (DAI MO SUN)’s premiere and attracted over 100 fans. However, Han Geng was ahead in popularity. The screams of both groups were deafening!
Wu Chun and Han Geng played games with fans and picked up spears to compete intense. However, with their chemistry they of course thought it was no big deal. They later also posed with spears. Wu Chun jokingly played Sun Wukong and looked convincing.
In addition, suspected Wu Chun nude photos were found online. Wu Chun was very surprised and said that he never saw them or posed for them. He asked whether they were just film stills? Reporters explained that someone probably doctored the photos. Wu Chun jokingly asked whether the person in the photo had a good figure. He even said that actually he would not pose nude. Earlier Mike Ho (Hor Kwun Cheung) had nude photos in his picture book. Wu Chun also had a fit physique but he said that he would not make a picture book. Even if he showed he would in a movie. Wu Chun asked Han Geng whether he would (make a picture book)? Han Geng said that he would not because his figure was not good.
Would Wu Chun bare all like Tony Leung Chiu Wai in LUST, CAUTION (SIK, GAI)? Wu Chun said, “It would depend on the movie and the level, I haven’t thought about this now. Each actor at different level ould have different mentality, like new actors would want to make more movies, but later they would want to accept greater challenges.” He felt that he could accept the soldier scene in BRAVEHEART because it was not dirty. Han Geng also agreed that it would depend on the character and the movie.

Sept.15.11 No bed scenes for Wu Chun’s future girlfriend
Source: XinMSN Entertainment
If the Bruneian heartthrob was to have a girlfriend from showbiz, he will not let her film any bed scenes

Over the weekend, actor Wu Chun was in Singapore to promote his latest idol drama Sunny Girl, which is currently airing on ChU, and movie My Kingdom.
Wu Chun lived up to his reputation of having a polite demeanour during his interview with xinmsn with occasional laughs and a farewell wave when it was time to go.
In short, Wu Chun was in no way similar to the arrogant wealthy second-generation character he plays in Sunny Girl. Taiwanese actress Rainie Yang stars opposite him in this series and plays the servant girl, whom he “tortured” initially but later falls in love with.
He was worried initially that the actress would be cold and difficult to work with, but his fears were left unfounded. Commenting on his first collaboration with Rainie, Wu Chun expressed that she is very bubbly and easy to get along with.
Wu Chun also gave his “first time” to Rainie, that is, the actor was slapped on the face for the first time in his life.
When xinmsn commented that he should be used to the pain, since he filmed a number of fighting scenes, Wu Chun exclaimed, “That’s different! It hurts more to be slapped!”

After popular member Wu Chun left Fahrenheit, the other three members continue to develop. And now, it’s three minus one, as only Aaron Yan and Calvin Chen shot for the VOGUE FNO t-shirt special collection. Perhaps it’s because of the group’s tacit understanding, both Calvin Chen and Aaron Yan like to go shopping with the other members. Aside from this, they also enjoy hanging out with friends, and they can immediately swap shopping ideas. They also likewise agreed by chance that going to Xinyi district, of course their top choice is 101! Because 101 gathers together all the top international brands, even if they’re just hanging out, they “can also check out the fashion trends”. Even if he’s just leisurely going around, Calvin Chen likes to plan his shopping and have a clear-cut target, and only checking out the things in his planned itinerary. While Aaron Yan likes to go around and discover stuff while he’s walking around.

Wu Chun’s sharp expression

Jiro Wang acts in a thriller
Sina Entertainment:
In these two years, each member from Fahrenheit has their own developments apart from singing. Recently, “My Kingdom” which Wu Chun starred in is going to premiere on 9 September. And coincidentally, Jiro Wang’s first movie “The House” is premiering on 23 September. This time, the movies of the two brothers are airing at the same time, audience who like Fahrenheit are blessed.
In March this year, Jiro Wang filmed his first movie “The House”. “The House” is a thriller movie with suspense elements. In the film, Jiro Wang changed his past image in idol drama and acted as a mature designer. This is also Jiro Wang’s turning point. The film is about Jiro Wang and Tong Liya who act as a couple. The couple go back to their childhood house to inherit assets but met with a series of frightening and mysterious events inside the old house. Everything in here is foggy, and it is hard to tell between reality and nightmares. When they realized that they had gone into danger, they also realized that they long could not get out of it.
Jiro Wang is the second in the group to go into the movie industry after Wu Chun. Wu Chun, as the group’s first person to step into the movie industry, can be counted as a “senior” among his brothers. Before the commencement of filming, Jiro Wang also revealed that he had specially asked Wu Chun for advice on how to better present himself. And Wu Chun also was very generous with his words and guided him before the movie. When he was on a programme, Jiro Wang was also asked if he was scared that both their movies airing at the same time would end up in a competition for box office results. Jiro was very relaxed and said, “No, the genres of the two films are different, the key is that when we are both promoting, there are more chances to meet, this feeling is quite good.” This time, the brothers are working together to achieve results in the movie industry, let’s anticipate their exciting performances.

This was Fahrenheit’s first event as three people endorsing a product after Wu Chun announced his departure from the group. Even without Wu Chun, the number of fans who attended in the event did not decrease. Calvin Chen, Aaron Yan and Jiro Wang divide the 10-million-dollar endorsement fee amongst themselves.
During the event, Fahrenheit held an auction for autographed shirts. Aaron Yan and Calvin Chen’s shirts were bought by male fans, while Jiro Wang’s were bought by a female fan. Altogether, the shirts were bought for 100,000 RMB (about 450,000 TWD), and shirts that Fahrenheit themselves wore still had their smell also added to the die-hard fans’ collections.
INTERVIEW: Trend Is That People Do Not Like The Same Thing

Five years time was enough to soar Fahrenheit’s four boys grow into men. Five years time enough for them to understand what they have to do their own in the end. Always claimed that they may go solo but will not dissolve, but now Aaron is no longer bound by the old rule of combination , and cut off the lovely hair, put on a stylish full shape, even a small make up for his smoky look, again surged to the singer’s identity with his own solo album, “The Next Aaron” 《下一个炎亚纶》 in everyone’s sight.
“I still do not speak much”, “finally have the opportunity to make people listen to me sing,” and ” 6 songs with six kinds of style, are in my heart to sing.” Almost every interview he said these few sentences, then become a butterfly behind which always have a pain. He used his voice to talk with the people, “I am waiting for the next me, to challenge the me now.”
Y : YOHO
A : Aaron
Y : Recently, you filmed the last MV , is there any new plans ? Or , Is the album will have a new MV ?
A : The recent focus is on the new album, “The Next Aaron” propaganda, the company has plans to shoot new film and is in the talks, very soon will have a new work presented to you .
Y : I heard that you have a variety of musical instruments, are they all for your own interest of learning?
A : This is basically because I’m very fond of music, hoping to have my very own creation, so I’m learning all these instruments.
Y: How do you usually prefer the style of dress?
A: I usually have the same for out and home, but more relaxed comfortable.
Y: I heard you like to eat a variety of snacks, you do more exercise to consume it?
A: Haha, you even know this fact better, exercise is a must to do, I think the most important thing to keep fit is to press on (keep going).
Y: For the future what is in your plan?
A: The future will certainly still be more development in the music, of course, drama, hosting and other areas will be also involved.
Y: What feature of you, do you think your fans gets attracted to you?
A: Haha, I said to myself this is strange, but I think it may be because I was lucky , of course, also like to thank so much support for my fans.
Y : In the Future, will more mainland development (work)?
A : Ah Sure, I like mainland , especially to eat, haha, I hope to have more opportunities for work in there.
Y : Talk about your views on pop culture ?
A : I think the trend is people don’t like the same thing, each person’s understanding is different, it is difficult to define a standard, so you have to find your own feeling about what is the current way of life.
Aug.23.11 Calvin Chen says he’s not a heartless man
Source: http://tw.nextmedia.com/applenews/article/art_id/33618512/IssueID/20110824
Translated by Nastyhobbit@AF
[Rough Translations]

Last week, Joanne Zeng unexpectedly broke the news that previously she cried for him for one month. Afraid he might have the reputation of being a heartless man, yesterday Calvin Chen cried out, “It was our characters in the drama who were in a relationship! Not us!” With his popularity rising, and a new book “Incredible Journey of Calvin Chen” selling more than 20,000 copies, at the end of the year it will also be released in mainland China.
The easy-going Calvin Chen is considered to be the Fahrenheit member with the fewest rumors surrounding him. Since his debut, he was only reported to be ambiguous with Joanne Zeng because of filming the drama together. But he has always denied the rumors, only saying they’re “good friends”. Last week Joanne Zeng was in Singapore filming “I may not love you”, and referred to having given too much of her feelings while filming the drama, and because in the end she had to quit the role she was very sad and cried, which Calvin completely denied.
Separates from his role only after wrapping up
He said, “She felt depressed because she didn’t get to finish the drama, not because of me!” But he also admitted that during filming, it’s inevitable that the some of the feelings spill over to real life, “A professional actor, when portraying a role, has to amplify those feelings. If there are no emotions, then the character doesn’t come out.” He also conceded that even off-camera, he would still maintain the same mindset, and only until the drama wraps up that he would separate himself from the character. He joked, “Fortunately my roles lately have been rather lively, so they’re not too different from my own personality.”
August 22, 2011 : Jiro Wang Exclusive Interview
Movie Net/ (Pictures: Liu Fang Zhou, Text: Bai Xiao Sha) He can give off the charm in “K.O. One”, and can also be as gentle in “Absolute Darling”. He is the Super Saiyan from Planet MJO who perseveres with the Fahrenheit dream, and is also a child at heart, the sunshine boy who calls himself “Wang San Sui (Wang Three Years Old)” despite being 30. On 25 August, Jiro Wang, along with his first movie “The House”, came to the TV channel to record “Guang Ying Xing Bo Ke- Optical Star Podcast”. At the live scene, he quirked his eyebrows, charming everyone with his smile, and hopes that his change in style to a mature one can bring to everyone a brand new self.
Change of style to a mature one in new movie, claims that it is hard to compare with Wu Chun’s “The Kingdom” “Hana Kimi”, “Momo Love”, “K.O. One”, “The X Family”, “ToGetHer”…… Jiro Wang’s idol dramas are uncountable, but most of them give off the energy and youth of a sunshine boy. This time, he broke through his previous image in the psychological thriller “The House”, using the deep mysterious feel of a mature man to hand in the perfect answer for his first movie. In the film, he acted as Li Yi, a mustached and mature man, a couple with Mainland China rising star Tong Li Ya. The couple went back to the old house in their hometown to inherit her father’s assets, and experienced a lot of strange unimaginable things after that. Towards the change in style, Jiro Wang feels that the greatest difficulty was in whether he was willing to try out a role totally different from previous ones. As long as he believes the director and prepares enough for it beforehand, he can challenge it and overcome all difficulties.
Talking about why he chose a psychological thriller for his first movie, Jiro Wang revealed that it had been the script that had attracted him at first. “I still remember that I was on the plane, and was so touched that I cried after reading the script. Calvin Chen, who was beside me, was so helpless.” After that, he didn’t forget to joke. “Even the air stewardesses found it weird, they thought that there was something between the two of us men”. But after that, when asked whether he was scared about filming a horror film, Jiro Wang expressed that the scene in the movie is quite scary, that old house is covered with purple vines, making it look very eerie. But he was not scared at all, because the director of the film Pan Heng Sheng is very interesting, and since he had participated in some Stephen Chow movies, and loved to act it out at the filming scene. After saying this, Jiro immediately imitated the director’s Hong Kong accent: “You know, (I am) an actor!” That is why the filming process and atmosphere was always quite relaxed, even making him feel like he was acting in a comedy film.
In addition, Fahrenheit’s ex-member Wu Chun’s new movie “The Kingdom” is also coming out in September. Regarding whether he minds being compared, Jiro Wang stated that the two films had different themes and content, it’s very hard to compare them: “When you film a movie, the most important is what you learnt, to cherish the director’s teachings, summarizing the experience to let yourself improve, and not to compare anything.”
Able to accept nude scenes, “The House” challenged his greatest limits for passionate scenes since his debut In “The House”, Jiro Wang and Tong Li Ya also had daring performances, not only showing off their kissing skills, but also breaking through their greatest limits when it comes to passionate scenes. “Because previously in idol dramas, the most was kissing scenes, and just a touch on the lips, even using the manipulation of standing positions to film fake kisses. But movies are particular about showing the truth, to show the realness, we were actually quite nervous during filming, because we didn’t wish to have NGs and end up filming again and again. The director also didn’t shout ‘Cut’, and let us develop naturally, in the end we passed after 2 times.” Regarding his limit when it comes to passionate scenes, Jiro Wang frankly said that he can accept nude scenes, because “Absolute Darling” which has just finished filming had a completely nude scene, but the important part definitely cannot be shown.
Turning 30 and urged by mother to marry, “Wang San Sui (Wang Three Years Old” likes girls who can cook) Jiro Wang, who has just had his 30th birthday, mocked himself by saying “Three years old without the zero”. During the filming of the show, he used his past successful experiences of hosting, and added different tones to different contexts in the phrasebook, sometimes lively, sometimes mysterious, having a very professional performance. Of course, being playful is “Wang San Sui“‘s best show. When he was introducing the movie “Rough Cute”, he didn’t forget to add in: “Oh, Kang Ji-hwan is m good friend, we drank together before.”
Jiro Wang is also very filial, saying that he spent his birthday with his mother. He also revealed that the house that he gave his mother has already finished renovation. He, who specializes in drawing, will also have his first brand shop in Shanghai this Mid Autumn Festival, hoping that he can have a breakthrough in his career upon turning 30, establishing a career. But he does not seem to be so successful for relationships. Before this, he had already expressed that he is still single and is often urged by his mother to get married and have children. Especially this year, many of his friends have gotten married, letting him be filled with envy. But he also revealed that he likes girls who can cook: “To get a man’s heart, you have to fill his stomach. Hope that I can find someone I like this year!”
